SUNLAND, Calif.—A woman who was struck by a pair of pickup trucks in Sunland—including one that fled the scene—was a 75-year-old Los Angeles resident.
She was identified as Yong Gustavson, according to the medical examiner’s office.
Ms. Gustavson was crossing Foothill Boulevard past Sunland Boulevard at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 5 when a red pickup truck northbound on Foothill Boulevard struck her, police said.
As she tried to get to her feet, a northbound black Toyota Tacoma on Foothill Boulevard also struck her.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
The driver of the red pickup truck continued on Foothill Boulevard and did not stop to help her, as required by law, police said. However, the driver of the Tacoma did stop to help the pedestrian, remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
Anyone with information about this collision is asked to call Detective Martinez at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division at 818-644-8033 or Officer Reyes at 818-644-8114.
