Whoopi Goldberg Criticizes Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for Going After Other Democrats

Whoopi Goldberg, the host of “The View,” has called on Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to stop “pooping” on other Democrats.

Goldberg was addressing the political landscape heading into the 2020 presidential election on Jan. 7 and talked about likely candidate Elizabeth Warren, a Democratic senator from Massachusetts.

She added that Ocasio-Cortez has been making too much commotion in Washington D.C. in trying to go after the Democratic establishment.

In an interview with “60 Minutes” on Jan. 6, Ocasio-Cortez said, “We as a party have compromised too much, and we’ve lost too much of who we’re supposed to be and who we are.”

“Let me just say this about Ocasio-Cortez. She just got in on Thursday, she was sworn in. And she’s very opinionated, which we like. We like opinionated women. But it is very, very difficult when people make accusations where you say, you know, the Democrats have done nothing,” she said.

Goldberg, 63, attempted to characterize Ocasio-Cortez’s recent statements. “The establishment of the Democrats have done nothing, and I just want to throw this out to you. John Lewis, wasn’t standing still, Dianne Feinstein wasn’t sitting still,” she said.

“You just got in there ... but I would encourage you to sit still for a minute and learn the job,” she stated before adding: “You can’t poop on what was when you’re coming in on the shoulders of quite a few giants.”

“The View” audience and co-hosts agreed and clapped.

Controversy with Scalise

It comes days after Steve Scalise, the Republican Minority Whip, ended a debate on Twitter with Ocasio-Cortez after some Twitter users, who Scalise described as followers of the freshman representative, after they made references to the June 2017 Congressional shooting that left him on death’s door.

“Hi @AOC. Happy to continue this debate on the Floor of the People’s House, but it’s clearly not productive to engage here with some of your radical followers,” tweeted Scalise.

In a TV Interview with Fox News, Scalise said he’d like to see Ocasio-Cortez do something about the tweets.

“I’d like to see her stand up to this, everybody ought to stand up to this kind of discussion. If somebody wants to have a debate about policy, that’s what we’re all about. That’s what the First Amendment is all about, but you shouldn’t threaten people. If you’ve got to threaten people to make your point, you’ve already lost,” said Scalise.

He first posted an article that included quotes from Ocasio-Cortez about a proposed 70 percent tax rate.

“Republicans: Let Americans keep more of their own hard-earned money,” Scalise wrote on Twitter. “Democrats: Take away 70% of your income and give it to leftist fantasy programs.”

In the 2017 shooting, Scalise was shot during a baseball game involving members of Congress. Self-described Bernie Sanders supporter James Hodgkinson was identified as the suspect and reportedly yelled “this is for health care.”

“I was there at the ballfield when Steven Scalise almost died from a very, very angry, violent man who was incited, really, by rhetoric on the left. And this hasn’t been reported enough: When he came on to the ball field with a semiautomatic weapon, firing probably close to 200 shots at us, shooting five people and almost killing Steve Scalise, he was yelling, “This is for health care!” He also had a list of conservative legislators–Republicans–in his pocket, that he was going to kill,” said Republican Sen. Rand Paul.
