Vitamix Recalls 569,000 Blending Containers and Blade Bases After Reports of Injuries

More than half a million Vitamix blending containers and blade bases—some costing up to $990—are being recalled nationwide as they pose a laceration hazard to users, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said in a notice on June 20.

The recall impacts 569,000 Ascent and Venturist Series 8-ounce blending containers, 20-ounce blending containers, and blade bases, including units repaired as part of a previous recall announced in 2018, according to the Cleveland, Ohio-based manufacturer.

The latest recall notice says the containers can separate from the blender’s blade base, exposing the blades, which can lead to a risk of lacerations among users.

Despite the recalled items posing a risk to customers, Vitamix will not offer customers a refund or replacement, and will instead provide a different remedy, according to the notice.

In the meantime, the company is warning users to stop using the products.

“The clear containers and black blade bases are included with certain Vitamix Venturist and Ascent Series blenders, such as the Venturist V1200, Ascent A2300, Ascent A2500, Ascent A3300, and Ascent A3500 blenders; and also sold separately, as sets, or bundles in various configurations,” the notice read.

Customers will also find the Vitamix logo printed on the blending container.

Vitamix has so far received 27 reports of lacerations related to the items subject to the recall. That includes 11 reports from the earlier recall, when “consumers’ hands came in contact with exposed blades,” the company said.

Recalled items Sold in Stores Nationwide

The extent of the injuries among users is not immediately clear and the notice did not elaborate.

The Epoch Times has contacted a Vitamix spokesperson for comment.

According to the notice, roughly 569,000 of the containers and blade bases subject to the recall were sold from April 2017 through May 2024 at retailers throughout the United States, including Best Buy, Costco, Crate & Barrel, Macy’s, Target, Walmart, and Williams Sonoma.

They were also sold online at Amazon and QVC, and through Vitamix’s official website.

An additional 121,950 blending containers and blade bases were sold in Canada, the notice said.

In the August 2018 recall, 105,000 of the 569,000 blending containers and blade bases were recalled after 11 people reported that their hands were cut due to exposure to the blades.

Blenders in the Ascent series can retail for up to $749.95 and those in the Venturist series, such as the V1200, retail for up to $549.95 on the Vitamix website.

The bundle sets cost nearly $1,000.

“All consumers, including consumers who participated in the 2018 recall, should immediately stop using the recalled 8-ounce and 20-ounce blending containers and blade bases, and contact Vitamix for a repair kit consisting of a protective plastic shroud to attach over the blade base and additional instructional labels,” Vitamix said in the notice.
