Hurricane Michael caused a transformer to explode as the storm hit the southern portion of Alabama on Oct. 10.
The transformer exploded in Headland, Alabama, and and the power went out at Nolan Helder’s home. Hedler captured the footage, CNN reported. The storm has 100 mph winds.
“Everyone ... should not venture out into the relative calm of the eye, as hazardous winds will increase very quickly as the eye passes,” according to the agency.
A transformer also exploded in Panama City Beach.
The agency said that storm surge is continuing to inundate parts of the Florida Panhandle.
The storm made landfall near Mexico Beach, Florida, at around 2 p.m. ET. Video footage captured during the storm showed homes totally inundated by storm surge as winds tore houses apart.
“On the forecast track, the core of Michael will move across southeastern Alabama and southwestern Georgia through this evening,” the NHC 5 p.m. advisory read. “Michael will then move northeastward across the southeastern United States through Thursday, and then move off the Mid-Atlantic coast away from the United States on late Thursday night and Friday.”
The storm came ashore as a Category 4 hurricane on the five-step Saffir-Simpson wind scale. It nearly hit Category 5 strength.
