An intense shootout between an Arkansas sheriff’s deputy and an illegal immigrant was captured on a police dash camera video.
The suspect, 29-year-old Luis Cobos-Cenobio, pulls over before leaning out of his car and opening fire at the deputy. Then, Cobos-Cenobio gets out of the vehicle and begins shooting while approaching the deputy’s vehicle.
Cobos-Cenobio and Thompson fired at one another for 53 seconds before the suspect drove away. He dropped off a female passenger, who was in the vehicle during the shootout, ABC reported.
The woman was trying to leave during the shootout, and wasn’t charged with a crime. Her name wasn’t released.
After an alert was sent out about Cobos-Cenobio, he was spotted by officers with the Springdale Police Department. When they tried to stop him, he fired at them, ABC reported.
A high-speed chase ensued and continued to Fayetteville, where officers with the Fayetteville Police Department and Arkansas State Police pursuing him. He eventually surrendered in Springdale.
Cobos-Cenobio is being held in connection with terroristic acts, attempted murder, fleeing, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia, NWAOnline and ABC reported. He’s being held on $500,000 bond, a spokesperson for the Washington County Sheriff’s Office told ABC News.
Cobos-Cenobio allegedly told police he “wanted to die,” 5NewsOnline reported.
“Several [shots] is an understatement,” Mike Jones, another witness, told the news outlet. “I was sitting at Casey’s when he came through the first time and had a shootout with the cops. I’m guessing 30-40 shots fired.”
No officers or sheriff’s deputies were hurt. ABC News reported that the suspect was shot in the arm.
