An Uber Eats delivery driver was followed and carjacked by a group of suspects over the weekend in the Mid-Wilshire area of Los Angeles after picking up food for delivery, according to authorities.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) responded to a reported carjacking Jan. 14 around 9:50 p.m. at the corner of W. 10th Street and S. Plymouth Boulevard.

The four suspects, in a SUV, first cut off the victim in traffic, then followed him for about a mile and a half, and when they caught up to him, two jumped out of the SUV and forced the victim to get out of his car at gunpoint, police said, taking his wallet and car keys.

At least two suspects then drove away in the victim’s car—a 2013 white Hyundai Sonata, according to police.

Two suspects are described as male Hispanics, aged 20 to 25, but no description was available for the other two suspects.

The victim, reported as Alin Hernandez by NBC4, told the television station that the incident caused him to lose not only his car but also some important documents—including his passport and work authorization documents.

“They ordered me to get out of my car,” he said.

Mr. Hernandez told the television station that he came to the United States from Nicaragua in 2021. Despite assuming his home country was more dangerous than the U.S., he said he had never experienced a carjacking there.

The LAPD is encouraging anyone with further information on the crime to contact Wilshire Robbery Detective A. Aguayo at (213) 922-8215. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous can call the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or go directly to www.lacrimestoppers.org.
