Two women who dated Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh have stepped forward to defend him after another woman claimed he sexually assaulted her 36 years ago while he was in high school.
Maura Kane said that she and Kavanaugh dated while he was in high school and that they have remained friends.
“I’ve been friends with Brett Kavanaugh for over 35 years, and dated him during high school,“ Kane said in a statement released by public relations firm CRC. ”In every situation where we were together he always respectful, kind and thoughtful.”
Another woman, Maura Fitzgerald, said that she met Kavanaugh while he was in high school and that they dated in college and have also remained friends.
“Brett Kavanaugh and I have been good friends since high school. I dated him in college and he was and is nothing like the person who has been described,” Fitzgerald said in a statement.
“He always conducted himself honorably with me at all times when we were together. He was always a perfect gentleman, and I vouch for him completely.”
Shocked by Allegation
Fitzgerald told Fox News that she was shocked by the allegation against Kavanaugh.“All the years that I’ve known Brett, even if we had a beer, he was always in complete control,” Fitzgerald said.
Kane said that she and Kavanaugh drank socially while they were in high school. “He never became ’someone different' after drinking,” she said.
Accusation Revealed, Hearing Scheduled
California professor Dr. Christine Ford has accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her at a party in the 1980s.She said she told no one about the alleged incident until 2012 when she was in couple’s therapy with her husband. The therapist’s notes said that four boys were involved in the incident, while Ford says now there were only two. The therapist also did not write down the name of the alleged assaulter, but Ford’s husband said Ford mentioned Kavanaugh by name.
The Senate Judiciary Committee vote scheduled for Sept. 20, has been postponed and a hearing has been scheduled for Sept. 24.
“Anyone who comes forward as Dr. Ford has done deserves to be heard. My staff has reached out to Dr. Ford to hear her account, and they held a follow-up call with Judge Kavanaugh this afternoon,” Grassley stated. “Unfortunately, committee Democrats have refused to join us in this effort. However, to provide ample transparency, we will hold a public hearing Monday to give these recent allegations a full airing.”
