President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday the appointment of Sean Curran as the next director of the United States Secret Service.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump commended Curran’s 23-year law enforcement career and his role in protecting the Trump family.

“Sean has distinguished himself as a brilliant leader, who is capable of directing and leading operational security plans for some of the most complex Special Security Events in the History of our Country, and the World,” Trump stated.

Curran’s selection comes in the wake of criticism faced by the Secret Service following two assassination attempts on Trump during his presidential campaign in 2024. Curran played a crucial role in protecting Trump in the first incident on July 13 of that year in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a bullet grazed Trump’s right ear during a rally.

“He proved his fearless courage when he risked his own life to help save mine from an assassin’s bullet,” Trump said, commending his bravery.

Curran will replace Ronald Rowe, who has been serving as acting director following the resignation of Kimberly Cheatle on July 23, 2024. Cheatle faced criticism for the agency’s handling of the assassination attempt on Trump in Butler.

The Secret Service has been under scrutiny following the two assassination attempts on Trump. The agency reviewed its response to the Butler incident, issuing a mission assurance report that found “multiple operational and communications gaps” in their handling of the situation, according to a Nov. 1 statement.
“This included a deficiency of established command and control, lapses in communication, and a lack of diligence by agency personnel. The U.S. Secret Service’s Office of Integrity is reviewing the findings and the accountability process is underway,” the statement read.

Other Appointments

In addition to Curran’s selection, Trump announced two other significant appointments on the same day.
Andrew F. Puzder, a former CEO of CKE Restaurants, Inc., has been selected as the next United States Ambassador to the European Union. “Andy will do an excellent job representing our Nation’s interests in this important region,” Trump stated on Truth Social.

Trump also nominated L. Brent Bozell III, the founder and president of the Media Research Center, to serve as the next CEO of the United States Agency for Global Media.

“He and his family have fought for the American principles of Liberty, Freedom, Equality, and Justice for generations, and he will ensure that message is heard by Freedom-loving people around the World,” Trump said in a separate post on the social media platform.
