WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump underwent his first annual exam since taking office for a second term with a visit to Walter Reed Military Medical Center in Washington on April 11.

“Overall, I felt I was in very good shape. Good heart, a good soul, a very good soul,” Trump told reporters on Air Force One later in the day, noting that further details are expected on Sunday.

A White House official told The Epoch Times it could take time to release a detailed readout of the results and said the findings will be released soon.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters on Friday that Trump is in sound health.

“The president is in very good shape, as you see on a near daily basis here,” Leavitt said during a press briefing.

She said the routine physical included comprehensive testing and imaging and promised more details from White House physician Dr. Sean Barbabella.

“There’s quite a lot that goes into it to make sure the president is accomplishing all of his goals,” Leavitt said. “And we will provide a readout of that as soon as we can.”

The president informed the world of his appointment via his Truth Social platform on April 8.

“I have never felt better, but nevertheless, these things must be done,” Trump wrote.

His prior physical exams during his first term included a litany of assessments, such as recording vital signs and conducting blood tests, checking cholesterol and glucose levels, as well as organ function. Screenings for cancer and heart disease are also standard procedure, with all prior exams giving the president a clean bill of health.

Trump has repeatedly championed his mental acuity and celebrated his perfect score on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment that he took in 2018 and what he described as another flawless test during his current physical.

“I wanted to be a little different than Biden. I took a cognitive test,” Trump said mid-flight. “I don’t know what to tell you other than I got every answer right.”

While campaigning in 2023, Trump posted a letter on his Truth Social platform from Dr. Bruce Aronwald, his personal physician, which said he was in “excellent health” and reported his “cognitive exams were exceptional.”

His doctor reported improvements in laboratory results, which he attributed to Trump’s weight loss, achieved through dieting and daily exercise, according to the letter.

“With his continued interest in preventative health monitoring and maintenance, he will continue to enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle for years to come,” Aronwald wrote.

Also of note during prior exams is the president’s lifelong abstinence from tobacco and alcohol, which doctors attributed to his healthy lung and heart function.

During his first term in January 2018, then-White House physician Dr. Ronny L. Jackson declared the president in “excellent health” following a four-hour examination.

At the time, Trump, 71, stood 6 feet 3 inches tall, weighed 239 pounds, and recorded metrics within normal ranges for his age, including a blood pressure of 122/74 with a resting heart rate of 68 beats per minute, according to the doctor’s report.

In the last year of his first term, his weight had climbed to 244 pounds, the 2020 physical exam conducted by Dr. Sean Conley found.
