Former President Donald Trump endorsed Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) for his Senate run Wednesday morning, giving his staunch supporter real treasure for the 2022 Senate race in a state deemed “safe red.”

“Few Republicans have as much COURAGE and FIGHT as Alabama Congressman Mo Brooks,” Trump said in his statement, calling Brooks “a great conservative Republican leader.”

On March 22, Brooks announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate seat to be vacated by 86-year-old Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), who won’t seek reelection after serving the Senate for 6 terms.

“Mo Brooks is pro-life, loves our Military and our Vets, will protect our Second Amendment, combat the Biden open borders agenda, is fighting for voter integrity (like few others), and was the Co-Chair of our winning, and record-setting, Alabama campaign in 2020,” Trump continued in his statement.

Brooks fiercely supported Trump in the last election. He was the first congressman to publicly announce that he would challenge Electoral College votes during the joint session of Congress on Jan. 6. He was also the first congressman to sign an objection.

“I led the charge in Congress to promote honest and accurate elections. At first, my fight was pretty darn lonely. But over time, 140 congressmen and senators joined my fight against voter fraud and election theft,” Brooks said when he announced his run for Senate.

Trump won Alabama by 62 percent in 2020. That was the fifth election in a row in which a Republican nominee won over 60 percent of the vote in Alabama. In a state like this, Trump’s endorsement would make Brooks’s win almost certain due to Trump’s dominant approval ratings among Republican voters.

Another candidate for Alabama’s U.S. Senate seat is Lynda Blanchard, Trump’s former ambassador to Slovenia, who announced her run in February.

Blanchard indicated on Wednesday morning that she wouldn’t drop out of the race, saying that she is “steadfast” in her support of Trump.

Trump’s endorsement for Brooks is no surprise, considering Brooks’ staunch support during the last presidential election. Another indicator is Stephen Miller, a former senior adviser to Trump, who delivered a passionate endorsement speech at Brooks’ kick-off event last month.

“Mo Brooks has my Complete and Total Endorsement for the U.S. Senate representing the Great State of Alabama. He will never let you down!” Trump’s statement concluded.
