Presidential candidate Donald Trump criticized President Joe Biden for removing his “successful” border policies and triggering an illegal immigrant crisis in the country while warning that the situation will become dire once Title 42 ends.

“Under my leadership, we had the most secure border in U.S. history so far. We replaced catch-and-release with detain-and-deport. One of my most successful policies was Title 42, which allowed for instant expulsion of any illegal alien who crossed our borders. Anybody. If they were bad, we got them out. We got them out fast,” Trump said in a May 4 video. Trump’s Title 42 public health order gave the American government the power to automatically expel illegal immigrants.

“Those who trespass into our country could immediately be sent back to the place from which they came. Every would-be illegal border crosser knew that with Donald Trump in the White House, our border was closed. It was absolutely closed. They had no chance of getting in. And therefore, they didn’t come.”

However, after Joe Biden became president, he ended “every successful border policy” that was in place, including “Remain in Mexico.” Biden also threw open American borders and instituted the “Catch and Release” policy that resettled “untold millions and millions” of illegal aliens in the country.

“Now, Joe Biden is preparing to remove the last remnants of my Title 42 policy,” Trump said. Doing so would mean that “hundreds of thousands” of people will pour into America, leading to “complete and total mayhem and utter lawlessness.”

Title 42 is scheduled to expire on May 11, after which illegal immigrants will be processed under the Title 8 law, which is a longer process.

Ending Title 42

Trump warned that “tens of thousands” of illegal aliens have already amassed on the Mexican side of the border, getting ready to cross into the United States once Title 42 ends.

“And some of the states like California are saying, ‘Come in, and we give you free health care, free education.’ People hear that from other countries and say, ‘Well, that sounds good to me.’ And they’re making a mass charge towards our border. It’s absolute lunacy.”

“It will be a mass resettlement of millions and millions of illegal aliens into your communities. And the invasion will be aided, abetted, and facilitated by the Biden administration every step of the way.”

Trump asked Congress to immediately terminate all funding for the Catch and Release program. “We should ban Joe Biden and the communists in the administration from using a single federal taxpayer dollar to set loose illegal aliens into the United States,” Trump said.

The former president promised that once he takes the oath of office on Jan. 20, 2025, he will immediately begin to secure the border and remove illegal aliens that Biden allowed into the country.

Thousands of illegal immigrants have been recently seen moving in a caravan through Mexico toward the American border.

“These characters will likely try to enter the United States by force, so the protocol of the border, which is to safeguard and protect the passage, will be put to the test,” Juan Rojas, a member of the Mexican National Guard, told The Epoch Times.

Immigrant Wave Into the US

According to data from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the border patrol had only encountered 458,088 illegal aliens attempting to cross the Southwest border in fiscal 2020 during the Trump administration.
This jumped to 1.73 million in fiscal 2021 under Biden and then to 2.38 million in fiscal 2022. During the first six months of fiscal year 2023, there have already been 1.22 million encounters.
Meanwhile, House Republicans on the Homeland Security Committee introduced a bill aimed at boosting security along America’s southern border. Called the Border Reinforcement Act, the bill requires the administration to resume construction on a border wall between Mexico and the United States.

After becoming president in January 2021, Biden halted wall construction, with some estimating that the decision has cost the country at least $72 million.

The bill also requires that the Department of Homeland Security provide reports on illegal encounters on a monthly basis. Republicans claim that the department is hiding data from the public.
