LOS ANGELES—Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz Monday called for an end to the Israel-Hamas war during an appearance on the ABC late-night talk show “Jimmy Kimmel Live” following a visit to Nova Exhibit in Culver City.

Walz said he met a recently released Hamas hostage named Noa at the exhibit about Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023, attack on the Nova music festival which was part of the deadliest attack on Jews since the Holocaust.

“Like Noa said, ‘We just want to dance again.’ That’s what we want to do,” Walz said.

The Minnesota governor told Kimmel Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, “and I talk about making sure that it never happens again, that Israel’s secure and the hostages are brought home and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza ends.”

Supporters of Israel have repeatedly said the war would end if Hamas released the hostages it holds.

In his first late-night appearance, Walz also discussed his time as a social studies teacher.

“Social studies teachers talk to you about this idea that we could have different ideas, but we have unity, love the democracy, have an election and then shake hands and admit the person who won, won,” Walz said.

Walz also recorded an interview on the SmartLess podcast with hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett on Monday morning, according to his campaign.

Walz arrived at Long Beach Airport Sunday night following fundraising receptions in La Jolla and Montecito earlier in the day to begin a three-day West Coast campaign swing. Walz had been scheduled to fly into Los Angeles International Airport, but his plane was diverted by fog.

Walz is set to conclude the West Coast swing on Tuesday by speaking at campaign receptions in Seattle and Sacramento.
