LOS ANGELES—Thousands of Southland residents were suffering power outages Feb. 25 as a historic winter storm pummels the area, and some customers might not have their electricity restored until late Saturday or Sunday, utility officials said.
Both the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) and Southern California Edison were reporting multiple large outages that began Feb. 24.
“Our crews worked through pouring rain & wind overnight to restore power,” the power agency wrote on Twitter at 12:33 p.m. Saturday. “At 10AM this morning, 52,000 customers had been restored, while 66,500 remained without power out of LADWP’s 1.5 million customers.”
The utility tweeted Friday that “customers experiencing outages should expect crews to respond between 12-24 hours from the time the outages are reported. Restoration may take longer depending on field conditions. TY for your understanding. Our crew won’t stop until all are restored.”
The outages included one in East Hollywood affecting over 2,200 customers, one in Hollywood affecting more than 1,100 customers, one in Los Feliz affecting over 900 customers, and one in Toluca Lake affecting 874 customers, along with smaller scattered outages across Los Angeles County.
The utility estimated that power would be restored by 10 or 11 p.m. in those areas.
Several hundred customers were also without power in North Hollywood, Valley Village, and Studio City, with restoration not anticipated until late Saturday.
Southern California Edison’s outage map showed 56 outages affecting more than 10,500 customers in Los Angeles County as of 12:30 p.m. Saturday, and 13 outages in Orange County affecting more than 566 customers.
