The heartbreaking moment when 5-year-old Zachary Clemens greeted his 8-year-old sister, Angela Clemens, for the first time in three weeks was captured on camera on Wednesday, April 25.
The photo of the emotional union has moved the hearts of thousands of people who were devastated to learn about the fatal motor accident that occurred on Highway 87 earlier this month on April 7.
“They are able to touch each other for the first time since the accident.”
The pair’s brothers, Wyatt, 4, and Nicholas, 2, also survived the car crash and were also recovering in hospital.
The children’s parents, Jim Alan Clemens, 31, and Karisa Brianne Clemens, 29, along with their two-month-old sister Juliana, were tragically killed in the accident.
The four surviving children were taken to Shannon Medical Center, and then transferred to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth.
Angela, who recently woke up from a coma, suffered various brain injuries. Zachary suffered a broken back, while Wyatt suffered strokes following the accident and is paralyzed on his left side. Little Nicholas was fortunate to escape the accident with only minor injuries.
Burrell has been providing updates on the children’s conditions and their recovery journey. In her latest posts, the three older children were photographed sitting in wheelchairs holding hands while celebrating their great aunt’s birthday.
“Best birthday gift EVER. Seeing these 3 children all together at last. Angela sang happy birthday to me. It wasn’t long ago that we wondered if she would be able to talk. We are still praying for our Zachery but this picture makes my heart so happy,” Burell said.
The driver of the Tahoe, Monique Deion Austin, 23, also suffered serious injuries, reported the news station. Austin’s 1-year-old son, who was also involved in the accident, is expected to be okay.
