A woman was shot and killed at a Texas cemetery this week while she visited the grave of her recently deceased son, according to her ex-husband and police.
Yolanda N’Gaojia went to visit the grave of her son, Amir Tajai-Kineh N’Gaojia, on Tuesday, said her ex-husband to Texas media outlets. While she was there, the woman was shot and killed.
Yolanda was visiting the grave on what have been Amir’s 22nd birthday, said Kineh N’Gaojia, her ex-husband, reported KWTX. According to an online obituary, Amir died on New Year’s Day. She was visiting the gravesite for their son’s “first birthday in heaven,” Kineh N’Gaojia had written online.
“I have no words because I can’t believe this is real. This is stuff you see on movies but it has become our life,” Kineh N’Gaojia wrote on Facebook. ”I can’t believe you are gone ... how y’all gonna kill her on her (son’s) birthday at his gravesite??”
He continued, “My children will never be the same again,“ adding: “Those bullets took a precious gem from us but gave us an Amazing Angel to guide us so you know we ain’t going nowhere but up cause we know how hard you rode for your family.”
Killeen Police described the shooting as “an isolated incident,” which is being investigated as a homicide. They said a second victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
“[Officials] ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas,” said Killeen Police, without releasing the victims’ identities. “The name of the victim has been withheld pending notification of next of kin.”
Other details about the incident were not provided.
