SANTA ANA, Calif.—A man allegedly armed with a handgun was shot by police officers during a traffic stop in Santa Ana, authorities said April 8.
Officers stopped a vehicle occupied by two men at about 6:40 p.m. Friday in the 500 block of South Rosewood Avenue, the Santa Ana Police Department reported.
“During the traffic stop, officers encountered a subject armed with a handgun and an officer-involved shooting occurred,” the department said in a statement.
The suspect suffered gunshot wounds to his upper and lower torso. Paramedics rushed him to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
The other occupant and officers were not injured.
