LOS ANGELES—A man suspected of fatally stabbing a 23-year-old passenger without provocation aboard a Metro B Red Line train in downtown Los Angeles remained jailed Sept. 11 in lieu of $2 million bail.
Randy Lamale Nash, 31, was arrested at about 9:10 p.m. on Sept. 9 near the 1000 block of West 85th Street in South Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. He was booked on suspicion of murder.
The stabbing occurred around 5:20 p.m. on Sept. 7. Police said the suspect approached the victim, pulled out a knife, and “without warning or provocation” stabbed the victim—identified as Jesse Rodriguez—in the chest.
Transit Services Division officers who were at the Pershing Square Station rendered aid to Mr. Rodriguez until paramedics arrived. The victim was taken to a hospital, where he later died, Officer Tony Im told City News Service.
The suspect fled the scene but his face was captured on surveillance video from the station. Police released a photo of Mr. Nash on Sept. 8 in hopes of generating tips leading to his capture. It’s unclear if public tips actually contributed to his arrest.
