First responders rescued a kite surfer from a remote California beach June 9 after a private helicopter pilot spotted the word “help” spelled out in rocks.
Videos posted on X by fire rescue crews Sunday showed the rescue as a first responder was lowered from a hovering helicopter onto the thin strand of Davenport Landing beach, about 12 miles north of Santa Cruz.
The surfer was strapped to a rescue line attached to the helicopter and lifted to safety on a bluff above the beach, according to the social media post.
“The beach is somewhat remote, access is difficult,” CalFire’s San Mateo-Santa Cruz Unit wrote on X. “The tide was also coming in.”
The surfer, who was identified only as a male, did not need medical attention, according to CalFire.
