LOS ANGELES—A 53-year-old man suspected of stealing $4 million worth of Lenovo computers was arrested in Colton, police said Oct. 31.
Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Harbor Division patrol officers received information Oct. 30 regarding the theft of the computers, police said. The victim stated the load of computers were taken via fraudulent means and tracking devices were being used to follow the trailer with the stolen computers to Industry and then Colton, police said.
LAPD Commercial Crimes Division Cargo Theft Unit detectives were notified and began conducting a thorough investigation, police said.
Investigators eventually located Julio Vieyra who arranged for the pickup and transport of the stolen computers to an unintended destination in Colton.
The actual destination for the computers was Findley, Ohio.
“Vieyra was interviewed and admitted to cutting the bolt seal of the trailer to identify its contents,” police said.
The La Puente resident also admitted to ditching a tracking device prior to redirecting the computers to Colton, police said.
