South Carolina Parents Charged After Father Hurled Car Seat in Anger and Baby Landed on Head

Two parents in South Carolina were charged with unlawful neglect of a child after the father threw a car seat in anger after his baby started crying.

The Horry County police said that Jacob Lowman, 22, of Conway, became irritated when his teething child started to cry.

WBTV reported that Lowman threw the baby’s car seat in anger.

The baby was not strapped in, so the throw caused the child to “fly out” and land on his head.

Police officers responding to the home on March 10 found the baby with a visible injury.

The victim did have a “visible injury to the top of his head where it appeared he was dropped,” an officer wrote in the report.

Conway was arrested along with Juliana Biggerstaff, 20, also of Conway.

Both were charged with unlawful neglect of a child. They were released on $5,000 bond each.

Biggerstaff told officers that she rushed over to her son after he was injured and picked him up, trying to console him.

She said she wanted to take him to the hospital but Lowman allegedly said that if she did, “Department of Social Services would remove the child from their care,” the officer noted, reported WBMF.

Authorities said that several days later, the parents got into an argument, which led to Biggerstaff calling a friend who called the police, reported The State.

The Department of Social Services became involved and took over custody of the baby when he was taken to the hospital.
