A University of Alabama student has been expelled after videos surfaced of her using racial slurs.
School officials condemned the videos, which spread on social media, prompting an investigation into the woman’s conduct and her subsequent expulsion, CBS reported.
Harley Barber, a 19-year-old freshman from Marlton, New Jersey, apologized Wednesday, Jan. 17, for her racist remarks.The video was posted on Instagram by Harley Barber of Marlton, New Jersey, and features her making a range of racist comments, including using the “N-word.”
Barber posted the video on Monday, which was Martin Luther King. Jr day.
The video was also later circulated on Facebook.
The university moved to investigate the video while the Alpha Phi International Fraternity, of which Barber was a member, acted to remove the woman from its roster.
“The Beta Mu chapter leadership and supporting alumnae moved quickly to address the offense, and Ms. Barber is no longer a member of Alpha Phi,” added Linda Kahangi, executive director of Alpha Phi International Fraternity.
