The search for a South Florida woman who recently traveled to Colorado and made threats against multiple schools has concluded after she was found dead on Wednesday, April 17, according to local reports, citing authorities.
In a post, FBI and local authorities said the threat on the community had ended.
“UPDATE: THERE IS NO LONGER A THREAT TO THE COMMUNITY. More information to follow shortly,” FBI Denver tweeted on April 17.
The FBI confirmed that they were searching around the base of Mount Evans.
A hiker in the area told the news station that she was told to leave the area because “a naked woman matching the description with a gun was spotted in the area running through the woods.”
Earlier Pais’s father, who has not been identified by name, urged his daughter to come home, according to reports.
A man who identified himself as Pais’s father told a number of local television stations that he wants his daughter to come home.
The father, who has not been identified by name, said the family has not seen his daughter since April 14.
He said, if the allegations are true, then there may be underlying problems to her actions.
“I think maybe she has a mental problem,” he told CBS4 News.
Authorities said Pais was “armed and dangerous” and had reportedly purchased a pump-action shotgun and ammunition, reported NBC6. They also added that Pais was “infatuated with the Columbine school shooting.”
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was posting regular updates about the search.
The search had prompted Jefferson County Public Schools to place local schools on lockout and the schools were subsequently closed on April 17 as a safety precaution, according to school officials.
A neighbor, Patricia Bilstin, who lives next door to Pais said it was surprising to hear the news and that the girl always kept to herself.
“She always kept to herself. She never got in trouble at school. So surprising and I feel sorry for the family,” Bilstin told CBS4 News.
The police investigation is still ongoing.
