A search for two missing brothers at a lake in Northern California turned into a recovery effort by Dec. 18, according to the Butte County Sheriff’s Office.

Wesley Cornett, 17, and Andruw Cornett, 19, went missing Saturday while duck hunting at Thermalito Afterbay, a pool downstream of Lake Oroville. A search becomes a recovery when it is determined the missing are probably dead.

Search and rescue teams, law enforcement, and state fire rescue resources were out at the bay again Thursday searching a specific location using sonar equipment, according to sheriff’s spokeswoman Megan McMann.

“We’re just going to keep searching,” McMann told The Epoch Times.

Crews have been out on the waters of Thermalito Afterbay all week, posting updates on social media as the operation continued.

Rescue crews responded to the location Saturday after they received a report that one of the two hunters had overturned on a kayak, and the other one swam out to help. Sheriff’s deputies, detectives, the aviation and marine unit, and search and rescue members all took part.

Both brothers remained missing on Thursday.

The sheriff’s department urged the public not to call its dispatch center to ask about volunteering. They discouraged the public from intervening or trying to help.

Family members were also out at the boat ramp Thursday and have been there since their loved ones went missing. They asked for privacy after receiving several media calls, according to McMann.

“We also have allied agencies from across Northern California assisting us,” the department wrote on a social media post Monday.
