Eric Weinberg, best known for being the co-producer and writer for the hit TV show “Scrubs,” was arrested and charged with 18 felony counts for having sexually assaulted five women, the Los Angeles County District Attorney announced on Wednesday.
According to a statement from LA county District Attorney George Gascón’s office, the 62-year-old Weinberg is charged with “six counts of sexual penetration by use of force, four counts of oral copulation, three counts of forcible rape, two counts of sexual battery by restraint and one count each of assault by means of force likely to cause great bodily injury, attempted sexual penetration by use of force and false imprisonment by violence.”
LA county prosecutors alleged that at different times between 2014 and 2019, the TV producer lured each of the five women to photo shoots and sexually assaulted them.
Specifically, he allegedly approached two women on two separate occasions in 2014. After telling them he was a photographer, each of the women came back to his home where he allegedly sexually assaulted them. In 2017, Weinberg allegedly also targeted another woman in the same way before assaulting her at his house. Weinberg committed two more separate sexual assaults against two other women in 2018 and 2019, according to the LA county DA’s office.
Gascón said that investigators think there could be many more victims of assaults of Weinberg that date back to the 1990s, and urged them to come forward.
Dozens More Allegations: DA’s Office
At a news conference on Wednesday, Gascón said that Weinberg was previously investigated several times by police, but the DA’s office didn’t file charges for lack of evidence.Dozens more potential victims have alerted law enforcement of alleged assaults by Weinberg since his initial arrest in July, Gascón’s office noted in a statement.
LAPD Detective Ryan Lamar said investigators were looking into information received from a tip line regarding possible other assaults by Weinberg.
Per The Associated Press, an email to an agent for Weinberg seeking comment wasn’t immediately returned.
One woman alleged that she met Weinberg at a North Hollywood coffee shop in 2014 when she was 22, and he convinced her to come to a photo shoot at his home where she stripped to her underwear. The woman alleged that while taking photos, Weinberg grabbed her, forced to perform oral sex, choked her, and then raped her, according to documents cited by the LA Times.
Besides “Scrubs,” Weinberg has also had producing and writing credits on other shows, including “Anger Management,“ “Men at Work,” “Veronica’s Closet” and “Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher.” He was also a co-producer of “Californication.”
