The daughter-in-law of deceased Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, an immigrant, announced that she’s switching from Democrat to Republican due to the way Democrats treated Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
One of the Senate’s top Democrats, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) held knowledge of a sexual assault allegation against Kavanaugh for two months before it was released publicly, only after Kavanaugh met with a number of Senators and answered over 1,000 questions, written and during a week of public hearings.
The accuser, Christine Ford, said she wanted to stay anonymous.
Scalia’s Daughter-in-Law Explains Change to Republican
Adele Scalia is married to Antonin Scalia’s eighth child, Christopher Scalia. Antonin Scalia served as a Supreme Court Justice from 1986, when he was nominated by President Ronald Reagan, until he died in 2016.She said that the treatment of Kavanaugh has convinced her to side with Republicans while convincing her Democrats “are not who they claim to be.”
“The party that established itself as a champion for the voiceless, powerless, and wrongfully accused, betrayed its values and launched a vicious attack on Kavanaugh that left him voiceless, powerless, and completely incapable of defending himself. Against all logic and good faith, they released uncorroborated allegations of sexual misconduct to the public, counting on the backdrop of the Me Too movement to make them that much harder to criticize or ignore,” she wrote.
“I still cannot reconcile these actions with the social and criminal justice reform platforms that Democrats campaign on.”
‘Hypocrisy’
Noting the left’s attack on men, and white men in particular, in recent years, Scalia noted how the uncorroborated claims were almost unilaterally believed by Democrats. Even the most questionable claims were used to undermine Kavanaugh’s character. He was then condemned for becoming emotional while defending himself. Scalia wrote that the sequence was “gaslighting at its most egregious.”On Ford, who said she wanted to stay anonymous, Scalia added, “Democrats fed Ford to the wolves.”
Scalia said she’s been motivated by the situation to become a citizen and vote Republican.
“These events opened my eyes to the hypocrisy of the Democratic Party. It’s actually a very exclusive club that wants me as a member based solely on stereotypes of who I am supposed to be,” she wrote. “That is why I am energized, for the first time, to become a citizen and empower myself with a vote. It will be a vote against the bullies on the left who broke a good man for no reason other than political differences.”
