A rural Texas school district caught the attention of Libs of Tiktok last week for a website link to LGBT chat rooms for children and a Biden Foundation video coaching parents to confirm their child’s transgender identity.
The LGBT resource link was available on the counseling web page of Charlotte Independent School District, a tiny district with some 400 students, but it was no longer available by the afternoon of April 28.
The school district’s superintendent responded to The Epoch Times saying it had been unaware of the link, which was removed.
The Libs of TikTok report said the district was “pushing gender ideology onto young students and their parents.”
The site included links to LGBT resources, including “Coming Out for LGBT Mental Health,” “LGBT Family Acceptance,” and “Gender Spectrum Homepage.”
One advertised LGBT teen chatrooms available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for those aged 19 and younger.
Another site called “Validationstation.net” would send out free daily “gender-affirming” text messages to “trans and non-binary youth.”
The site also linked several videos, including “Support for LGBT Youth Starts at Home.”
Higher Suicide Rate
The video coaches parents on “family acceptance and support” for youths who are LGBT.It asserts that children of families that reject teens who decide to switch genders or think they are attracted to the same sex are more likely to commit suicide or be depressed.
The study, which was published in 2011, showed those who transition through surgery or hormones have a higher mortality rate, particularly from suicide.
It also found transitioners had an increased risk for suicide attempts and psychiatric inpatient care.
More de-transitioners also condemn cross-sex hormones, and surgeries to remove body parts, saying they realized too late they could never become the opposite sex.
Some have told The Epoch Times they fear they are now sterile.
Charlotte Independent School District’s superintendent Roger Solis said by email that the administration wasn’t previously aware of the LGBT link.
“It has been discovered that a previous employee, who is no longer with Charlotte ISD, posted a link on the Charlotte ISD counselor page to a resource page managed and owned by them without notification or authorization,” he said.
State Rep. Steve Toth (R) told The Epoch Times that currently, Texas has no law against links on school pages to LGBT sites.
“There’s just this thing called morality, and values, and decency that you would respect a child,” Toth said.
Toth, who supports legislation to halt the sexualization of children, told The Epoch Times young people could easily be exposed to sexual sites and pornographic material online while searching for LGBT resources.
“It’s so vile,” Toth said. “These school districts, it’s so evil what they are doing to kids.”
The Texas Legislature is working to pass a Parental Bill of Rights, such as Senate Bill 8, a sweeping piece of legislation that would allow school choice through a voucher system and establish parental rights.
The bill, which passed the Senate, is being considered in the House. However, it’s unclear if the House will pass the measure since 20 Republicans voted not to fund the voucher program.
The idea that opponents of the bill may try to run out the clock prompted Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, president of the Senate, to suggest a special session if the bill doesn’t pass during the regular session ending on May 29.
The bill also gives parents the right to withhold consent for their child to participate in activities, instruction, supplemental services, library materials, and health education to name a few.
Julie Pickren, a conservative serving on the Texas State Board of Education, said the federal Parent Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment offers children and parents some protection from sexualization.
The law protects students from being asked about mental problems or sexual behaviors, or attitudes in surveys, analyses, or evaluations.
Texas has a teacher code of ethics saying that they must follow all local, state, and federal laws. Parents can file complaints against teachers who violate the regulation, she said.
Pickren said Biden’s Title IX push to equate gender identity with biological sex would go against the current federal law.
At the core of the sexualization of children issue is an elitist viewpoint that parents don’t know what’s best for their children, she said.
“This all boils down to the belief that children belong to the government,” Pickren added.
“Parents are the primary decision maker in their child’s life.”
