Charles Manson, the cult leader whose followers carried out a series of grisly murders in the 1960s, was reportedly hospitalized in California.
It’s unclear why he’s been hospitalized.
Vicky Waters, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, confirmed that Manson is alive.
“I don’t believe he will leave the hospital,” Gurecki said. “(It’s) heart failure. (His) body is shutting down.”
Manson, who is also known for the crude inverted swastika carved in his forehead, is surrounded by five uniformed officers, TMZ reported.
“It’s not going to get any better for him,” a source said. “It’s just a matter of time [until he finally dies].”
Prior to Wednesday’s reporting, Manson was hospitalized with serious health issues months ago in January. At the time, he was hospitalized for severe intestinal bleeding and had to go to surgery to repair a lesion. However, he was deemed too weak by doctors and was sent back to prison.
Witnesses told KGET that Manson was seen at Mercy Hospital in downtown Bakersfield.
He’s serving several life sentences for leading the “family” on a killing spree for two nights on Aug. 9 to Aug. 10, 1969. The group killed pregnant actress Sharon Tate, the wife of “Chinatown” director Roman Polanski, and four of her friends before killing Leno and Rosemary LaBianca the following night.
Manson was sentenced to death after he was convicted, but the California Supreme Court found California’s death penalty law unconstitutional in 1972.
For the past 48 years or so, Manson has been a troublesome prisoner. He’s been cited for assault, repeated possession of a weapon, threatening staff, and possessing a cellphone.
The former musician’s first parole hearing was in November 1978, and he was denied parole for the 12th time on April 11, 2012.
Parole officials said at the 2012 hearing that he has problems with schizophrenia and has paranoid delusions. Manson has also never expressed remorse for the slayings.
