After two days of meetings with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng in San Francisco, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said on Friday that the United States does not seek to decouple its economy from China’s.

“I think we have to decouple in key areas, I would call it strategic decoupling,” Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wis.) said to NTD reporter Iris Tao on Saturday when asked for his comment. But he emphasized that he wasn’t advocating for a complete decoupling.

Mr. Gallagher criticized Ms. Yellen for what he called “zombie engagement.”

“It’s this resurrection of an idea we thought was dead, whereby we can engage with China economically, diplomatically, and hope that they become a responsible stakeholder in the international system that’s failed for over 20 years,” he explained.
