Rapper Young Dolph was shot and killed Wednesday in Memphis, Tennessee, according to Mayor Jim Strickland and management agency APA.
“All of us at APA are shocked and deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic loss of our dear friend and client, Young Dolph,” APA said in a statement to Variety, confirming his death. “The world has lost an icon, a great man and beloved artist who has been taken too soon. His dedication, drive, hard work and loyalty to all those around him always came first and he will be deeply missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this most difficult time. ”
“To honor all victims of violent crime, I ask for calm in our city to allow the Memphis Police Department to do their duty to capture those responsible,” Strickland continued.
Memphis City Councilman J.B. Smiley and Tennessee State Rep. London Lamar said that the City of Memphis should implement a curfew after the shooting, as Smiley made reference to “reports of additional shootings.”
In reference to the shooting, the Memphis Police Department wrote that “officers are on the scene of a shooting,” although the department didn’t identify the victim, who “was pronounced dead” at the scene.
