Probe Continues Into Compton Party Shooting That Killed One, Injured 5

COMPTON, Calif.—Sheriff’s investigators June 8 are investigating a shooting in Compton that killed one man and injured at least five other people at a residence where approximately 100 people were in attendance.

Deputies were sent to the intersection of Mayo Avenue and Greenleaf Boulevard outside Compton College around 8 p.m. Friday, according to homicide Lt. Omar Camacho of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies reported seeing approximately 100 people leaving a residence. They were directed to the rear of the location and discovered a victim with apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses at the scene told ABC7 that the shooting occurred at a pool party at a home nearby. Video from the scene showed deputies searching the backyard of a home for evidence.

Three women and two men were taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Compton Fire Department. KCAL9 reported that a sixth victim walked into a hospital two hours after the shooting.

No suspect description was immediately available.
