Pro-Choice Student Says Babies Born After Botched Abortions Aren’t Babies

A Boston College student said at a recent pro-life forum that a baby born after surviving a botched abortion should not be given medical care—because, she alleged, it wasn’t a baby.

During a Q&A portion of the event, Students for Life of America President Kristan Hawkins engaged in a dialogue with two pro-choice students. The event was sponsored by the Pro-Life Club of Boston College, which is a Catholic school.

Hawkins started off her questions by asking one of the women if they believed babies from illegal immigrants housed at immigration centers along the border deserve to be given medical care, according to a report by the Media Research Center.

“Do you think that the children that are apprehended at the border that are in U.S. government care … do you think babies who are going to die should be resuscitated and be given care?” Hawkins asked.

“Yes,” the woman answered.

Hawkins then asked a similar question, this time changing the location of the scenario.

“Okay. Do you believe that a baby who is born alive during an abortion at Planned Parenthood should get care?” Hawkins asked.

The student, who was not identified in the report, replied, “No.”

Hawkins again followed up and asked the woman if she believes a baby born with a beating heart after a botched abortion is still a baby.

“No,” the student answered.

When asked why she thought that, the pro-choice student claimed that the baby was not a baby “Because they’re performing an abortion.”

“So, for that, they’ve already determined that it’s not a baby” she added.

Hawkins then asked the student how an abortionist determines if a baby is not a baby.

“It hasn’t been born yet,” the student answered.

During an abortion procedure, the abortionist injects the fetus with Digoxin, to kill the unborn baby, Hawkins explained. She asked the student if the baby who survived a botched Digoxin attempt and was born is still a baby.

“No” the student responded.

According to The Center for Medical Progress, “Digoxin is injected into the fetal heart, fetal body, or amniotic sac to induce fetal demise... Digoxin kills the cells and poisons the tissues of the fetus.”

Trump Admin Crackdown

Last month, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that the Trump administration will expand on existing anti-abortion policies with the addition of a new rule that prohibits U.S.-funded organizations from aiding foreign groups that support abortion.

Speaking to reporters, Pompeo said the United States will crack down on these non-governmental organizations. At the same time, he said they are “fully enforcing” federal law to prohibit the use of taxpayer dollars to “lobby for or against abortion.”

“As a result of my decision today, we are also making clear, we will refuse to provide assistance to foreign NGOs that give financial support to other foreign groups in the global abortion industry,” Pompeo said. “We will enforce a strict prohibition on backdoor funding schemes … American taxpayer dollars will not be used to underwrite abortions.”

President Donald Trump expanded the so-called Mexico City policy in 2017 that ensured taxpayer dollars are not used to support foreign NGOs that perform or actively promote abortion as a method of family planning. The new rule expands on this further.

Pompeo said Trump’s work on the anti-abortion policy two years ago “now protects every human life impacted by the nearly $9 billion of foreign aid we spend on global health programs each year.” He noted that the “vast majority” of partners have complied with the 2017 policy and continue to work with the administration.
