A court date has been scheduled for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) financier husband, Paul Pelosi, following a DUI arrest last month in Northern California.
“The case is currently under review to decide what, if any, charges will be filed against Mr. Pelosi,” Haley said, according to the report. “This is standard protocol for any DUI case that is referred by a law enforcement agency in Napa County.”
Haley added: “No decision has been made at this time .. any speculation to the contrary is incorrect. When a filing decision is made by the Napa County District Attorney, the media and public will be notified.”
Jail records show that Paul Pelosi, 82, was arrested in Napa County, where he and Nancy Pelosi own a vineyard. He faces two misdemeanor charges including driving under the influence and having a blood alcohol content higher than 0.08.
In late May, the California Highway Patrol released details about the arrest, saying that Paul Pelosi’s late-model Porsche collided with a Jeep as he was trying to cross State Route 29. He was arrested more than an hour later, the release said.
His attorney, Larry Kramer, issued a statement that “several news reports about Saturday night’s traffic incident involving Paul Pelosi have included incorrect information.”
“Pelosi was fully cooperative with California Highway Patrol officers who arrived a few minutes later,” he said.
“A prior driving offense erroneously attributed to Mr. Pelosi is untrue and likely refers to an unrelated person with the same name. This error must be corrected,” his lawyer said in the statement to the Daily Beast. “There are also incorrect reports that misstate the timing of events.”
But in the statement, Kramer didn’t make mention of the DUI arrest and did not elaborate on what incorrect information was published.
Drew Hammill, a spokesperson for the speaker, said that Nancy Pelosi won’t be commenting on the matter. During the time of the crash on Sunday, the speaker was in Rhode Island.
