A passenger in the backseat of a vehicle was killed on the morning of Aug. 12 when it crashed into a garage at a home in South Pasadena, authorities said.

“The impact was significant enough to push a vehicle parked in the garage through the back wall,” said Sgt. Craig Phillips of the South Pasadena Police Department.

According to police, a silver 2020 Infiniti driven by 21-year-old Sun Valley resident David Silva was speeding southbound on Orange Grove Avenue and approaching Oliver Street at 1:51 a.m. Saturday when the car veered into a residential garage in the 300 block of Orange Grove Avenue.

Paramedics rushed Silva and the front-seat passenger to a hospital with moderate to severe injuries. The passenger in the backseat suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one inside the home was injured.

South Pasadena police urged anyone with information about the crash to call them at 626-403-7270. Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or on its website.
