With Thanksgiving fast approaching, the Orange County Rescue Mission (OCRM) is planning to hold its 8th Annual Turkey Trot OC 5K Run/Walk in-person after being on hiatus for nearly two years due to COVID-19 shutdowns.
The family-friendly Thanksgiving morning run welcomes walkers and joggers, kids, and dogs to join in the fun. Festive Turkey Day costumes are traditional and racers are encouraged to get creative with their race attire.
The financial goal of the event is to raise enough funds, approximately $44,500, to provide 30,000 meals for hungry and homeless citizens of Orange County. In 2020, OCRM provided 1,579,478 meals to men, women, children and veterans in the community who would otherwise go hungry or be undernourished.
Starting at 8:00 am from OCRM’s Village of Hope campus in Tustin, the course will make its way to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, where racers can pay their respects as they pass by its Peace Officers Memorial, then on to the Tustin Marine Base where they will have up-close and personal views of the huge aircraft hangars still occupying the property.
Participants can register for the 2021 OCRM Turkey Trot at www.turkeytrotoc.org, through Nov. 23 at noon.
