September 4

  • Some San Mateo County parks have reopened after the CZU Lightning Complex fire.
  • The National Weather Service has issued a fire watch for the North Bay Mountains and East Bay Hills from 10 p.m. Sept. 7 to 8 a.m. Sept. 9.

  • Santa Rosa announces that all events will be canceled for the rest of 2020.
  • Santa Rosa announces that five public art proposals will be considered for permanent installation in Courthouse Square.
  • Due to extreme fire weather conditions, Placer County’s Hidden Falls Regional Park will be closed Sept. 5–8.
  • Woodland Christian School became the first elementary school in Yolo County to reopen for in-person instruction.

September 2

  • Santa Clara caps third-party delivery service fees at 15 percent to help local restaurants.
  • Santa Cruz County reminds the public of beach closures throughout Labor Day weekend.
  • Siskiyou County announces a water collection and distribution zoning text amendment.
  • Santa Rosa warns of excessive heat Sept. 5–7.
  • USDA offers assistance to farmers and livestock producers affected by the California fires.
  • As of Sept. 2 at noon, the SCU fire is 72 percent contained, LNU is 76 percent contained, and CZU is 46 percent contained.

September 1

  • University of California will stop using SAT/ACT scores in admissions.

August 31

  • According to one report, an anonymous lawyer intends to help Juan Tang, a former UC Davis researcher accused of visa fraud, bail out of jail.
  • Over 30 U.S. mayors have sent a letter to the House and Senate requesting to extend the census deadline to Oct. 31.
  • Santa Cruz County announces a new online form for evacuees using the free hotel program.
  • Yolo County allows hair salons and barbershops to resume.
  • Some counties, such as Solano and Contra Costa, may reopen indoor malls operating at a maximum capacity of 25 percent.
  • As of Aug. 31 at noon, the SCU fire is 60 percent contained, LNU is 63 percent contained, and CZU is 39 percent contained.
  • California launched a “Blueprint for a Safer Economy” for residents to check the status of each county and the activities allowed.
