Utica College, located in Upstate New York, was placed on lockdown “due to a real, credible threat,” the school stated on Monday.
The college initiated a “shelter in place” order just before 12 p.m.
“Armed uniformed officers will be clearing buildings as soon as possible. Comply with all law enforcement instructions. If you are sheltered in place, you will be evacuated and escorted to a safe location. Please stay where you are until directed by law enforcement,” the school tweeted after 12 p.m. on Monday.
“Utica College is currently under a lock down due to a real, credible threat. Everyone on campus is to remain sheltered in place. Please get to a safe place and remain there until you are told the shelter in place direction has been lifted,” the college wrote on Twitter at 11:49 a.m. on Monday.
Meanwhile, a caller apparently phoned the school saying he was armed inside the Gordon Science Center.
“Come get me,” the caller said, according to the college newspaper’s Twitter feed.
Utica College, a private university, is located about 52 miles east of Syracuse, and has about 4,400 students—undergraduate and postgraduate.
