House Democrats redacted the name of Alexandra Chalupa, the former Democratic National Committee (DNC) contractor who met with Ukrainian officials to try to obtain dirt on President Donald Trump’s campaign, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) said on Wednesday.

“Violating their own guidelines, the Democrats repeatedly redacted from the transcripts the name of Alexandra Chalupa, a contractor for the Democratic National Committee who worked with Ukrainian officials to collect dirt on the Trump campaign, which she provided to the DNC and the Hillary Clinton campaign,” Nunes said in his opening statement, delivered before witnesses testified in open impeachment hearings.

Nunes listed Chalupa, a Ukrainian-American, as part of his requested witnesses Republicans sent to House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) over the weekend.

“Given President Trump’s documented belief that the Ukrainian government meddled in the 2016 election to oppose his candidacy, which forms the basis for a reasonable desire for Ukraine to investigate the circumstances surrounding the election and any potential Ukrainian involvement, Ms. Chalupa is a prime fact witness who can assist Congress and the American public in better understanding the facts and circumstances surrounding Ukrainian involvement in the 2016 election,” Nunes wrote.

Chalupa passed information to both the DNC and the campaign of Hillary Clinton during the 2016 campaign, she told Politico in 2017. Chalupa met with Ukrainian officials to obtain information about Paul Manafort, Trump’s campaign chairman at the time.
Chalupa asked the Ukrainian government for information on Manafort’s dealings inside Ukraine, Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States, Valeriy Chaly, told The Hill this year.
Chalupa said this week that she wants to testify in the impeachment inquiry.

“I’m on a mission to testify,” she said.

Chalupa is active on Twitter and was tweeting throughout the hearing on Wednesday. She responded to Nunes directly, writing, “for the past 4 years I’ve been a target of the Kremlin’s cyber warfare & disinformation warfare, including conducted by the GRU & Putin’s top spokespeople.”

“In Congress, you’ve elevated Moscow’s disinformation attacks targeted at me, an American. Please explain why,” she added.
