Mother Arrested for Allegedly Throwing Her Newborn at Baby’s Father and Breaking Child’s Skull

A 24-year-old Louisiana woman has been arrested after allegedly throwing her 26-day-old son at the father during a fight, police said.

The newborn was left with a cracked skull on Thanksgiving Day.

Heidy Rios of Terrytown has been charged with cruelty to a juvenile, according to Jefferson Parish Sheriff.

The father initially took his son to Children’s Hospital in New Orleans where the child was diagnosed with a fracture of the right temporal bone.

Detectives who interviewed him were told he and his girlfriend were having an argument when she allegedly took the newborn and threw him at the boyfriend’s feet.

At first Rios denied even holding the baby during the argument, telling investigators she had no idea how her son was hurt, according to nola.com.

But after a “neutral” witness said that she had indeed been holding the baby, Rios changed her story, saying she “may have dropped the child” during the argument.

The baby’s injuries weren’t life-threatening, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office told nola.com.
