Mother, 4 Children Found Dead in Tennessee Murder-Suicide

A mother and her four children were found dead in Tennessee late on Oct. 15, in an apparent murder-suicide.

Maury County Sheriff Bucky Rowland said the five bodies were found in a house in Columbia in Maury County off Carters Creek Pike, with three girls and a boy found dead along with their mother, who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The father was not at home, police officers said. A family member, identified as an older sibling by some officials, had called 911 after returning to the house from work around 6 p.m. and finding the five people dead, Sheriff Rowland told News 4. None of the identities of those involved have been released as of yet.

Investigators said the mother appeared to kill the children before killing herself.

The children ranged in age from 7 to 16.

Request for Prayer

Sheriff Rowland told News Channel 5 that there had been “struggles” within the house, but didn’t elaborate. He also said there had been no previous calls to the home.

“I'd ask our community to lift the rest of this family and friends up in prayer and remember those and be respectful of the family as well because they’re victims in this. Of course, they’re going to have to deal and learn how to deal with this and how to live life without their loved ones,” Sheriff Rowland said.

“Of course, the first responders, we see gruesome scenes regularly, but this is not one that you see every day, so I'd ask our community to lift our first responders up in prayer as well.”

Rowland said the sheriff’s department is not searching for any suspects and that they’re interviewing surviving family members.

“We don’t believe we have a suspect at large at this time, but we are going to be thorough with this investigation,” he said, reported the Columbia Daily-Herald.

“We won’t leave anything uncovered, and we will find all of the answers we need.”
