Police said that three young children drank vodka after their mother left them home alone for seven hours.

Tyeisha Coneisha Streater, 26, of Gastonia, North Carolina, was charged with misdemeanor child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, reported The Associated Press.

Officers found Streater’s children outside their Gastonia apartment on Monday.

The officials told AP that her seven-year-old girl wandered into traffic and tried to stop cars. She also exhibited “very erratic behavior,” said Assistant District Attorney Megan Rhoden.

“She had been exhibiting very erratic behavior, at one point trying to go into a laundromat, breaking the glass out to get the fire (extinguisher), throwing dishes with officers, trying to eat food off the floor,” Rhoden said, as reported by the Gaston Gazette. “Behavior that was obviously very concerning to the police officers.”

Streater told officials that her children were asleep when she went to the laundromat with an 8-month-old child.

Police said she was gone for seven hours, but Streater said that she was only gone for about an hour and a half.

Streater, who works at a Wells Fargo, also disputed reports that her children were heavily intoxicated. “The alcohol bottles that was there was filled with water,” she said, reported the Gazette.

AP reported that the children are in the care of Streater’s grandmother.
