Another pro-abortion Democrat, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, is also slated to appear at the worldwide climate summit at the Vatican in May.
Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey, a Democrat who supports late-term abortions and promotes drag queen events for children, will be speaking alongside Pope Francis at the upcoming Vatican climate change summit.
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, who advocates a woke agenda that has included anti-white events, was also invited to speak at the event by the Pontiff.
Ms. Wu said she was thrilled by the Pope’s invitation and Ms. Healey called it “an immense honor.”
“This is a global problem that cannot be solved by any one nation alone, and we look forward to collaborating with the mayors, governors, academic institutions, and scientists on solutions at the summit,” said Ms. Healey.
“We are deeply grateful for His Holiness Pope Francis for hosting this important gathering and for his leadership in bringing people together to address climate change.”
The three-day
summit entitled From Climate Crisis to Climate Resilience, is slated from May 15 to May 17 at the Vatican in Italy. Pope Francis is its organizer and keynote speaker.
He extended the invitation to Ms. Healey just after she spoke at a fundraiser for The Catholic Schools Foundation, which is chaired by Boston Cardinal Sean O'Malley.
Three days before speaking at the Catholic fundraiser she gave a speech on invitation at the elite Catholic school St. John’s Prep.
“It was quickly clear her personal values are closely aligned with those of the Xaverian Brothers,” the school posted on its website following her visit.
Some Catholics have slammed the “red carpet treatment” Healey is getting from church leaders and church-funded organizations.
She is scheduled to make an appearance at a Catholic Charities banquet on May 29th to honor Cardinal O'Malley.
C.J. Doyle, executive director of The Catholic Action League of Massachusetts, noted that Ms. Healey and Ms. Wu were both endorsed by Planned Parenthood.
He described the Pope’s invitations to them as “two more repulsive examples of the callous contempt which the prelates of the Church continually exhibit towards the faithful Catholics of the pro-life movement.”
He placed much of the blame on Cardinal O'Malley for what he said was a long history of courting politicians despite their anti-Catholic values.
“Since becoming Archbishop of Boston in 2003, Cardinal Sean O'Malley has instituted the corrupt practices of adopting a member of the Bay State’s pro-abortion, pro-sodomy political establishment as a kind of patron and protector of the Archdiocese,” Mr. Doyle said in a statement.
Cardinal O'Malley, who is also the archbishop of the Archdiocese of Boston, did not respond to inquiries from The Epoch Times about Mr. Doyle’s comments.
Assailed Crisis Pregnancy Centers
The Pro-Life Legal Defense Fund also condemned the Pope’s invitation to Ms. Healey, citing her hostility toward crisis pregnancy centers. In 2022, when she was Massachusetts Attorney General, Ms. Healey, in partnership with the National Abortion Rights League, put out an advisory warning women of “deceptive and coercive tactics” of pregnancy centers.
Vandals attacked two pregnancy centers in the state a few hours after the advisory was issued.
Last year, in her first year as governor, Healey also ordered the University of Massachusetts to
stockpile 15,000 doses of the abortion drug mifepristone after a federal court ruling that blocked the Food & Drug Administration’s (FDA) approval of the abortifacient.
At the same time, she issued an executive order interpreting a shield law passed in 2002 as protecting access to mifepristone. In a press release, she wrote that “providers, including pharmacists, can continue to stock and dispense the drug” without criminal and civil liability.
Ms. Healey, who is the first elected openly lesbian governor in the U.S., has also advocated for gender transition treatments for minors. During her gubernatorial campaign, she called for more drag queen story hours and her administration has implemented a sex ed program that includes a transgender curriculum starting in the third grade.
Earlier this month, Pope Francis made it very clear where he stood on gender transitioning.
In a 20-page Vatican document called the Dignitas Infinita, the pontiff declared gender-transition surgery “a grave violation of human dignity.”
But he is the first Catholic pope to call on Catholic clergy to bless same-sex couples.
Focus on Climate Change
In 2022, through the Pontifical Academy of Sciences (PAS), Pope Francis created
Climate Resilience, an initiative to bring “policy makers and faith leaders together to understand the scientific and societal challenges of climate change and develop solutions for enabling resilient people and resilient ecosystems.”
In a statement, PAS quoted Pope Francis as saying that climate change goes beyond a merely ecological approach because “'our care for one another and our care for the earth are intimately bound together.”
Also on the speakers roster for the climate summit is Massachusetts Climate Chief Melissa Hoffer and University of Massachusetts Chancellor Marcelo Suárez-Orozco, who in 2018 was appointed by Pope Francis as a PAS Academician.
Ms. Healey will give a presentation on “Governing in the Age of Climate Change.” Ms. Wu will discuss “Governance, Health, and Energy.”
“As a coastal city known for our climate leadership, Boston serves as proof of what’s possible through focused planning and determined coordination,” said Ms. Wu.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to share Boston’s progress on climate action and learn from other mayors and leaders taking needed action for our brightest future.”
In 2021, Boston was
ranked as the city having the “Best Climate Practice” in the U.S. by Climate Scorecard.
