IRVINE, Calif.—A 37-year-old man suspected of stabbing his mother to death in Irvine, was fatally shot by police responding to the attack on Aug. 8.

Police were dispatched at 2:51 p.m. on the day to reports of a man attacking a woman on Green Tree Lane near Royce Road, said Kyle Oldoerp of the Irvine Police Department.

As officers arrived, they saw the suspect apparently stabbing the woman on the street, and it led to police shooting him, Oldoerp said.

Police identified the suspect as Paul Parvea Montazer of Las Vegas. He is the son of the victim, 72-year-old Parvin Montazer of Irvine.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene, Oldoerp said.

This is the second time in four days Irvine police have shot and killed a homicide suspect.

On Aug. 5, police responded to the fatal stabbing of a disabled man by a former caregiver, who was gunned down by police. Aaron Matthew, 47, killed 38-year-old John Alexander Bash III before confronting police with a knife, which led to him getting fatally shot, police said.

Anyone who may have witnessed this shooting or who has information related to the investigation was asked to contact Detective Brian Felling at 949-724-7189 or by email [email protected].
