The man who killed his estranged wife and her sister on Thanksgiving day was found dead from an apparent suicide in Arkansas, according to police.
He then drove 400 miles to his family’s home in Jonesboro, Ark., and sent a text message to his father saying that “he could not take it no longer.” Jackson’s father and brother found him in the front seat of his car with a gunshot wound to his head at 1:40 p.m.
Darrel Jackson was Mallory Jackson’s husband, according to his Facebook profile and police. Darrel Jackson lived in the home at 4534 Stone Mill Drive where the women’s bodies were found, police say.
Sgt. Christopher Wilburn told Indy Star that police were previously called to the same address for a domestic dispute.
Darrel Jackson posted a message on Facebook minutes before killing himself which suggests that the motive for the killings may have been his failure in finding work after graduating college.
“Nothing to this World,” he wrote. “No support, no prospects, earning a bachelor’s earned me even less progress. No need for my Talents or Wisdom, Corporate America must have a predetermined vision.”
“My only Motive was to overcome and inspire, but as slamming doors became rhythmic, my hope soon expired. Before you judge me take a second to realize, all the faith you could have restored before the demise,” Jackson continued. “Look Around, There are still more living and determined individuals with nothing to lose, a progressive drive, and everything to gain. Assist when possible! Without it, they may soon become nothing to this world.”
Mallory Jackson and Opel both graduated the Roncalli High School in Indianapolis. Their father, Doug Opel, was a basketball coach at the school for five years in the 1980s.
“The Opel Family spans generations of Roncalli alumni and have been long time members of our community on many levels,” Roncalli Principal Chuck Weisenbach said in a statement. “Our hearts are heavy and our prayers are with the family.”
