Man Killed in Apparent Gang-Related Shooting in Santa Ana

SANTA ANA, Calif.—A man was killed early on Sept. 28 in an apparent gang-related shooting in Santa Ana, and an investigation was underway.

Edwin Medina, 35, of Santa Ana was shot at about 12:45 a.m. in the 1000 block of West Central Avenue, according to the Santa Ana Police Department.

Authorities went to the scene on “a report of several gang-type subjects fighting ...,” the police said in a statement.

“An additional caller reported hearing a gunshot,” police said. “Officers responded and located an adult male lying on the ground suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his upper torso.”

The wounded man was taken to a hospital, where he died, police said.

“The circumstances surrounding this homicide appear gang-related and are currently being investigated,” police said.

No arrests were reported, and no suspect description was released.
