FULLERTON, Calif.—A man who allegedly ran toward officers with a weapon in each hand was fatally shot by police in Fullerton on June 15, authorities said.

Officers were sent to the 200 block of East Imperial Highway at about 5 a.m. in response to a 911 call of a man armed with knives and threatening people, according to Kristy Wells of the Fullerton Police Department.

“The reporting party told the call taker he was a victim of weapon brandishing and to send multiple officers due to the male’s dangerous behavior,” Ms. Wells wrote in a statement.

Officers contacted the suspect, who appeared to be holding a knife in each hand, and ordered him several times to drop his weapons, she said. The suspect suddenly began running toward the officers, prompting them to open fire, she continued.

Paramedics rushed the man to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported.

A knife and a box cutter were located at the scene in close proximity to the suspect, police added.

Per policy, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office will investigate the officers’ actions during the incident.

Fullerton police urged anyone with information about the case to call them at 714-738-5335. Anonymous tips can be made to Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS.
