ANAHEIM, Calif.—A 36-year-old man free on bail on domestic violence charges was behind bars March 20, suspected of killing a former girlfriend in Anaheim.
Police were called at 2:24 p.m. Friday to an apartment in the 1900 block of South Union Street, one block south of Katella Avenue, Anaheim Police Department Sgt. Jon McClintock said. When officers arrived they found the body of 24-year-old Mirelle Mateus of La Palma in the apartment, McClintock said.
Aaron Stevan Romo of Anaheim was arrested later Friday in Riverside County and booked on suspicion of murder, McClintock said.
Romo and Mateus had previously dated, McClintock said. Police did not offer any further details.
Romo was being held without bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.
Romo was out on bail for a domestic violence case dating back to Dec. 5. He posted $100,000 bail and was released Dec. 13.
Romo is charged in the Dec. 5 case with corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant and false imprisonment, both felonies, as well as misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and battery, according to court records.
Romo pleaded guilty July 22, 2014, to a misdemeanor count of reckless driving. As part of his plea deal, misdemeanor DUI charges were dismissed.
