Man, 23, Pleads Guilty to Fatal DUI Crash in Huntington Beach

SANTA ANA—A 23-year-old man pleaded guilty Mar. 2 and was immediately sentenced to four years in prison for a DUI-fueled crash in Huntington Beach that killed his passenger.

Miguel Angel Guzman Jr. pleaded guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, according to court records. He accepted a plea deal from Orange County Superior Court Judge Andre Manssourian, according to court records.

Rescue crews called at 12:50 a.m. Aug. 23, 2020, to Springdale Street and McFadden Avenue had to extricate Guzman and 25-year-old Lance Jones of Moreno Valley from the wreckage of the defendant’s vehicle, which slammed into a light pole, according to Huntington Beach police.

Jones died of his injuries at 5:21 a.m. that same day at UC Irvine Medical Center.
