Police in Long Beach, California, are asking for the public’s help in finding the driver responsible for a fatal hit-and-run.

The crash, which killed an unidentified woman, happened Jan. 5 about 8:05 p.m. near Atlantic Avenue and Market Street. Police and the Long Beach Fire Department tried to help the pedestrian, but despite their efforts, she could not be saved.

Police believe a speeding sedan heading southbound on Atlantic Avenue hit the woman, and after doing so, fled the scene. The red car sustained significant front-end damage, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information to call (562) 570-7355. Those wishing to remain anonymous can dial 1-800-222-8477.
