Small Business Administrator Linda McMahon is expected to announce plans to resign from President Trump’s cabinet on March 29, according to an administration official.
McMahon, 70, is reportedly expected to return to the private sector but her exact plans are still unknown, reported Politico.
A source told Fox News that she may join the Trump-affiliated America First Action Super PAC—an entity separate from 2020 Trump re-election campaign.
Senator Lindsey Graham has reacted to the news, saying that he was “disappointed to hear that Linda McMahon will be leaving the Small Business Administration.”
“She did a terrific job for President Trump and small businesses all over the country. She has much to be proud of and will be missed,” he said.
McMahon was nominated to lead the Small Business Administration in December 2016 and she was confirmed in February 2017. She was one of the president’s first nominees to serve in his Cabinet after he won the election in November 2016.
McMahon and her husband Vince McMahon co-founded World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. where she served as president then CEO until 2009. She stepped down from her position at the company so that she could run for Senate. She was the Republican nominee for Connecticut in 2010 and 2012.
While as CEO she helped WWE transformed from a 13-person regional operation to a publicly traded global enterprise with more than 800 employees in offices worldwide, according to a White House profile.
Trump, without announcing McMahon’s departure plans, said he would appear with her at his Mar-a-Lago retreat in Palm Beach, Florida, at 4 p.m. on March 29. The administration official said McMahon’s departure would be announced then.
McMahon, who is a prolific Republican fundraiser, is a graduate of East Carolina University. She and her husband have two adult children and six grandchildren.
