Life-Threatening Iowa Blizzard Causes Trump, Other Candidates to Revise Schedules

DES MOINES, Iowa–With almost a foot of snow already on the ground in Iowa, another wintry blast walloped the Hawkeye State with whipping winds and additional snowfall.

The National Weather Service warned about “life-threatening blizzard conditions at least into early Saturday,” prompting former President Donald Trump’s campaign to announce “an adjusted schedule” to keep everyone safe.

Although some in-person events are to resume starting on Sunday, a number of “telerallies” featuring the former president are now planned to be held along with “messages across social media and good, old-fashioned telephones to keep Iowa caucus-goers excited” in advance of Monday’s Caucus Night, his campaign said in a news release.

On Friday, U.S. Senate candidate Kari Lake of Arizona had been scheduled to stump for President Trump, but that event was canceled. Two other presidential hopefuls, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, also announced they were removing events from their schedules on Friday. In contrast, Ohio businessman Vivek Ramaswamy said he was going “full steam” with his schedule as planned.

Instead of appearing in two Iowa cities on Saturday—Atlantic and Sioux City—President Trump will participate in a telerally at 7 p.m. Central Standard Time (CST) that night with Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird, his campaign said.

Forecasters are calling for snowfall to abate by Sunday, but bitterly cold temperatures are predicted to persist.

On Sunday, President Trump’s “commit to caucus rally” is expected to be held as scheduled: noon CST at Simpson College in Indianola. At 5 p.m. CST Sunday, a telerally with Iowa Rep. Bobby Kaufmann is planned.

On Monday, hours before Iowans gather at 7 p.m. CST statewide for their precinct caucuses, the Trump campaign has set several events.

At noon CST, President Trump will hold a telerally.

At 2 p.m CST, the former president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., is set to appear along with his fiancee, former Fox News personality Kimberly Guilfoyle, in Ankeny, Iowa.

An hour before that, at 1 p.m. CST, a large “Team Trump Iowa Meet-and-Greet” will be held at the Shiny Top Brewery in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Special guest speakers include the following Republican congressmen: Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio; Reps. Andrew Clyde, Mike Collins, and Marjorie Taylor Greene, all of Georgia; Rep. Harriet Hageman of Wyoming; Reps. Matt Gaetz and Michael Waltz, both of Florida; two Texans, Reps. Wesley Hunt and Ronny Jackson; Rep. Jason Smith of Missouri and Rep. Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin.

Joining them will be Billy Long, a former member of Congress from Missouri; U.S. Senate candidate Kari Lake of Arizona; and the mayor of Knox County, Tenn., Glenn “Kane” Jacobs.
